Gena Smith, owner, NorthSide Kitchen Designs, was approached by owners of an old farmhouse near Chicago who wanted an organic, modern, sleek transitional primary bathroom without adding new square footage.
Challenges
As with all old homes, the old farmhouse had some hidden challenges, like concealed thrice remodeled plumbing supplies and poorly located plumbing stacks. The floor was also out of level that forced a decision between a flush threshold back to the adjacent primary bedroom with a slope across the bathroom or a level bathroom floor with a raised threshold back into the bedroom. The bathroom offered a mere 68 square feet to work with.
Solution
With careful space planning they blew out the existing space allowing a small powder room vanity to be replaced in a new location with a luxurious double vanity, the soaking tub replaced by a luxurious standing shower, and the addition of tons of storage which also added character to the room.
Results
By utilizing Kokeena’s Modern English custom color shaker doors, they were able to keep in line with the vision for an organic modern, sleek transitional primary bathroom fitting to the home while staying within budget. “Kokeena was patient and provided great assistance making sure all the necessary components were accounted for and sized accurately despite our modifications of the IKEA boxes and cabinetry components,” says Smith. “They also provided excellent customer service to guarantee a smooth delivery.”
